Demat & Trading Account Opening

Open a demat account the right way — and understand the market before you use it

To buy shares, ETFs, bonds or IPOs in India you need two linked accounts: a demat account that holds your securities, and a trading account that places your orders on the exchange. As an Authorised Person of Angel One, we help you open both online, set them up sensibly, and understand what you are doing before you place your first order.

Our help is free. Below is how it works, what the account costs, and the things we will never do — including give you stock tips.

Who This Is For

Three situations we help with most

  • Your first demat account. You want to buy ETFs, a few shares for the long term, or apply for an IPO, and you’d like someone to walk you through set-up instead of guessing.
  • You have an old account you no longer understand. Dormant demats, shares from years ago, unclear charges or a missing nominee. We help you make sense of what you hold and tidy it up.
  • You’re a long-term investor who wants the basics right. Which segments to activate, how orders and settlement work, and how to avoid the costly mistakes most beginners make in their first year.

How It Works

From first message to a working account, in five steps

Account opening is fully online, so it works the same whether you live in Ranchi, Deoghar or anywhere else in India.

  1. You get in touch. A WhatsApp message or the contact form. Tell us what you want to invest in — ETFs, long-term shares, IPOs — so we know which features you actually need.
  2. A short conversation. We explain the difference between the demat and trading account, the charges you’ll see, and which segments to activate. For most long-term investors that means the equity cash segment only — not futures and options.
  3. Online application with Angel One. You’ll need your PAN, Aadhaar linked to your mobile, a bank proof, a signature and a short in-person verification done by video. You add a nominee at the same stage.
  4. Account activation. Once the documents are verified, the account is typically ready within a few working days. We help you log in, set up two-factor security and link your bank account for transfers.
  5. Ongoing help. Questions about order types, contract notes, settlement, corporate actions or your annual statement — message us whenever something on the screen doesn’t make sense.

Your account is yours alone. Your shares are held in your own demat account with a depository, and the money you add sits with the broker in your name — never with us. We will never ask for your login password, OTP, TPIN or UPI PIN, and we will never place a trade for you.

What It Costs You

Our help is free — the account’s charges are shown upfront

We don’t charge you anything for the conversation, the onboarding or later help. The account itself carries charges in three layers, and it’s worth understanding all of them before you start:

  • Broker charges — any account-opening fee, annual maintenance charge and brokerage per order, as published in Angel One’s current tariff. We’ll show you the tariff before you apply.
  • Statutory and exchange charges — STT, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fees, stamp duty and GST. These are the same whichever broker you use.
  • Depository charges — a small fee each time shares are debited from your demat account when you sell.

Every one of these is decoded with worked examples in our guide to opening a demat account and every charge on it. As an Authorised Person, we receive a share of the brokerage Angel One earns on your account. That is exactly why we tell you plainly: frequent trading raises the brokerage we earn and lowers the returns you keep, and we will not encourage it.

Our Lines

What we will never do

  • Give stock tips or buy/sell calls. We are not SEBI-registered research analysts or investment advisers. What to buy is your decision, made with your own research.
  • Promise returns or “multibaggers”. Equity returns are uncertain and losses are possible. Anyone promising otherwise is selling something.
  • Push you into intraday or F&O trading. SEBI’s own studies show that the large majority of individual F&O traders lose money. We explain the data in our futures and options guide — and we’ll only ever help activate those segments if you ask, after you’ve read it.
  • Touch your login. No passwords, no OTPs, no “let me place the order for you”.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Our help is free. The account itself carries Angel One’s published charges plus the statutory charges every broker passes on. We’ll show you the current tariff before you apply, so there are no surprises.

Will you tell me which shares to buy?

No. We are not SEBI-registered research analysts or investment advisers, so we don’t give stock recommendations, targets or tips. We help you understand how the market works and how to research a company yourself — our guide to researching a stock is a good place to start.

I already have a demat account elsewhere. Can I open another?

Yes — you can hold more than one demat account under the same PAN. If you’d rather consolidate, shares can be transferred between demat accounts; we’ll explain the process and any charges before you decide.

Is my money safe?

Your shares sit in your own demat account with a depository, and your funds are held by the broker in your name under SEBI’s rules — they never pass through us. “Safe” here means properly held; the value of the shares themselves will still rise and fall with the market.

I live outside Jharkhand. Can you still help?

Yes. Account opening, verification and activation all happen online, so we work with investors across India by phone, video and WhatsApp.

Ready to open your account?

Send a WhatsApp message and we’ll walk you through it — no tips, no pressure, just a proper start.
