How to use this calculator
- Enter your yearly investment. PPF accepts between ₹500 and ₹1.5 lakh per financial year. Deposits above the cap aren't allowed, so the tool holds each year's contribution at ₹1.5 lakh even if your step-up would push it higher.
- Add a step-up if your income will grow. A step-up raises your deposit a set % every year — useful if you start below the cap and want to increase contributions over time. Leave it at 0 for a flat yearly amount.
- Check the rate. PPF currently earns 7.1% per annum, compounded yearly (credited at year-end). The government can revise this every quarter, so treat the rate as the present figure, not a lifetime guarantee.
- Set the tenure. PPF runs for a base 15 years, then can be extended in 5-year blocks (with or without fresh contributions). The slider moves in 5-year steps to reflect this.
- Read the result. The maturity figure is entirely tax-free. The donut shows how much is your own money versus interest, and the "tax saved" line estimates what a comparable taxable FD would have lost to tax at the 30% slab — PPF's biggest hidden advantage.
*Tax saved is illustrative: it estimates the tax a 30%-slab investor would pay on the same interest if it were earned in a fully taxable FD (interest × 31.2%). PPF pays no such tax. Actual benefit depends on your slab.
All figures are illustrations at the rate you enter, compounded annually, and are not guarantees. The PPF rate is set by the government and revised periodically. This tool is for education only and is not investment or tax advice.
