How this calculator works

Advance tax is due if your tax for the year, after TDS and TCS, is ₹10,000 or more. It is paid in four instalments:

Due byCumulative share of the year's tax
15 June15%
15 September45%
15 December75%
15 March100%
  • Presumptive business or profession (the 44AD/44ADA schemes): the whole amount by 15 March in one go.
  • Senior citizens (60+) with no business or professional income need not pay advance tax.
  • Interest for late instalments: 1% a month for three months on the shortfall at June, September and December (no interest if you paid at least 12% by June and 36% by September), and 1% on the shortfall at March.
  • Interest after the year: if you paid less than 90% of the tax by 31 March, 1% a month on the unpaid tax from April until you pay.
Gains you could not foresee. If the shortfall is because of capital gains, dividends or winnings that arose after an instalment date, there is no interest for that earlier instalment, as long as you pay the tax on them in the remaining instalments. This calculator does not apply that relief, so its interest figure may be higher than the actual one in such cases.
Disclaimer: This calculator gives an estimate for education and planning only. It is not tax advice. It applies the advance tax instalments and interest rules carried into the Income-tax Act, 2025 from the 1961 Act, as understood at the time of writing. Interest is worked out in a simplified way: actual interest is calculated on amounts rounded down to the nearest ₹100, from the due date to the date of payment, and on the tax finally assessed. FactFinances offers help with ITR filing; using the calculator places you under no obligation to use it.
